Equal care

Teal Health’s commitment to healthcare for all.

We know that not everyone who has a cervix identifies as a woman. Teal is committed to providing equal care for everyone who can benefit from our services — across all gender and sexual identities.

A joyful, candid shot of a happy couple laughing together in a kitchen. One partner embraces the other warmly from behind, showcasing themes of love, strong relational support, and peace of mind in proactive healthcare choices.

We are on a mission to close the gaps in cervical cancer screening — and make this experience feel comfortable, convenient, and private, for everyone who has a cervix.

A note on language

Teal’s use of gendered language.

Most of our materials use the terms “women” and “women’s health”. We want to be transparent about why.

These terms are the most accessible and easy to understand across our large and diverse patient population — which ranges widely in education levels, English proficiency, cultural background, and familiarity with healthcare. Using this language also lets us bring power back into women’s experiences, which have received less attention in traditional healthcare settings for too long.

With the Teal Wand, we offer an alternative way to screen for cervical cancer, supported by providers who specialize in sexual and reproductive healthcare. This is often broadly referred to as “women’s health” among insurance carriers, clinics, and healthcare culture. So we use these terms to speak most effectively to what we offer, rather than everyone we offer to.

If you have thoughts about our language, we genuinely want to hear them. Tell us

for all people with a cervix

What “equal care” looks like in practice.

The Teal Wand meets the highest standards of care for all people with a cervix — and we’ve built the experience around them, not the other way around.

01

Built for every cervix

Cervical cancer screening is for people with a cervix. That includes women, trans men, non-binary, and intersex people.

02

Clinically validated across diverse bodies

Our nationwide SELF-CERV trial enrolled participants across the full gender and sexual diversity of the U.S. population. The data we have applies to the people we serve.

03

Providers who specialize in this

The Teal Medical clinicians on your video visit work in sexual and reproductive healthcare every day. You can name your pronouns, your history, and your concerns without explaining the basics first.

04

Privacy first, by design

Self-collection at home means no waiting room, no gown, no front-desk conversation about what you're here for. Just a kit, a private space, and the time you need.

100%

of people with a cervix benefit from screening, regardless of gender identity

94%

of participants in our trial preferred at-home screening over a clinic visit

Real voices from the SELF-CERV trial

I would recommend (Teal) as a great option if you do not want to, or cannot, come in person to a clinic for a Pap. I liked the privacy and I felt empowered.
I know a lot of people who are uncomfortable with pelvic exams because of dysphoria. They would be a lot more likely to do a self-test.
I can see why (a speculum exam) is overwhelming, especially with body dysphoria, especially if you are realizing you're a trans man and you don't want to deal with that. An at-home test would be a good option to try because you are on your own, you can do your own ritual to prepare, in your own safe space.
